AI tools can help you learn faster, write better and get more done. But like any powerful tool, they work best when used thoughtfully. Here are 10 simple rules.

1. Use AI as an assistant, not a replacement

Let AI help you brainstorm, draft and explain, but keep thinking for yourself. The goal is to become more capable, not dependent.

2. Always verify important facts

AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Check important information, especially numbers, dates, names, health, legal and financial details, against reliable sources.

3. Protect your privacy

Do not enter passwords, bank details, Aadhaar or PAN numbers, or other sensitive personal information into AI tools.

4. Protect confidential work data

At work, follow your organisation’s policy. Do not paste confidential client or company information into tools that are not approved.

5. Be honest about AI use

Follow your school’s or employer’s rules. Where required, say when you have used AI, and never submit AI-written work as entirely your own if that is not allowed.

6. Write clear prompts

Give context, say who the output is for, and specify the format and length. Better instructions give better results.

7. Watch for bias

AI can reflect stereotypes from its training data. Think critically about whether answers are fair and balanced.

8. Respect creators

Be careful when generating content in the style of real artists or using copyrighted material, and do not use AI to imitate real people without consent.

9. Never use AI to harm or deceive

Creating deepfakes, fake reviews or scams is unethical and can be illegal.

10. Keep learning

AI tools change quickly. Explore new features, learn their strengths and limits, and keep building your own skills alongside them.

Remember

Whatever AI produces, you are responsible for what you share, submit or act on.
